Abstract

Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs) are type of non-profit organizations whose core motivation is Faith (religion). A diversity of definitions, key aspect identification and typologies have been offered in literature and a lot of research has been carried out on management, leadership, and funding of these organizations. Meanwhile, in Iran, which has experienced an Islamic culture and the establishment of faith-based institutions in the post revolutionary era, a lack of sufficient research that could cope with the one done internationally is felt. Student Basij , a religious institution recruiting volunteers , was established by order of the Great Leader of the Islamic revolution and its basic duty is safeguarding the Islamic and revolutionary principles . Despite this, not much conspicuous scientific research has been done on this very important volunteer group. The present research has reviewed FBO literature focusing on a leadership competency model. Then after interviewing Tehran University Basij authorities, their essential leadership competencies required are extracted and presented.
