Abstract
many managers, due to cognitive limitations and environmental pressures, suffer from a type of strategic myopia that affects organizational performance in different time horizons. This study aimed to investigate the role of two basic components of strategic myopia in achieving high short-term and long-term performance. The research method was descriptive-analytic and data were collected from 386 senior managers of small, medium, and large companies in the financial sector. The statistical population included companies with at least 10 employees and the data were surveyed as a census within a stratified sampling framework. Valid scales and standard instruments were used to measure the variables. The findings showed that temporal myopia, as managers' tendency to prefer immediate results, can lead to delayed strategic investments and poor long-term performance. Also, learning myopia, which arises from cognitive limitations and overreliance on past schemas, hinders adaptation to environmental changes and response to emerging crises. The results indicate that low levels of both dimensions of myopia are a necessary condition for achieving high short-term and long-term performance.
